The Albert McCoy Farm lies in the Long Creek section of northern Mecklenburg County, about fifteen miles north of the city of Charlotte.

As recorded in the 2000 nomination, the farm had been in the same family since 1770 and in continuous agricultural use since at least 1880.

In or around 1886 Albert McCoy commissioned the local builder John Ellis McAuley to build a new house for his growing family.

Albert McCoy, a Civil War veteran and a founder of St. Mark's Church, the first Episcopal church in northern Mecklenburg County, established the farm.
