Recorded amenities and mapped entrances are a starting point. Check the specific place and activity you plan to use.
- Check access and closures. A trail, its parking lot and nearby facilities can have different arrangements. Read the county's closure notices and confirm anything unclear with Park and Recreation.
- Plan your own route. Mapped segments do not establish one continuous walk. Choose an entrance, the section you will use and how you will return.
- Check the facilities that matter to you. A paved surface or an amenity flag does not confirm a step-free entrance, a suitable gradient, an open restroom or an available parking space.
- Check the total cost. Admission, parking, rentals and activity passes may be separate. Use the operator's current information before buying or setting out.
- Keep a weather backup. Check conditions before leaving. If you hear thunder, move indoors; the National Weather Service explains why.

Dog parks
Find parks with an off-leash area recorded and check the operator's entry rules. If children are coming too, confirm that they can enter the dog park you choose.
County-operated dog parks do not admit children under 12. Check the rules for the specific operator before combining a family and dog-park outing.
