What we established, and from where
The mill was the largest cotton mill in Charlotte when built in 1897 and was substantially enlarged in 1901.

The 1901 additions gave the mill a U-shaped plan with a courtyard, a form the nomination says was not found in other Charlotte mills.

Louise Avenue, which runs along the mill, was named — like the mill — for the wife of the mill's president.
