What we established, and from where
The original ca. 1889 Alpha Cotton Mill on the site was built by the D. A. Tompkins Company as a one-storey masonry building.

After the 1901 conversion to a weaving mill the plant produced madras cloth, sateens, jenos and momie cloth.

The ca. 1901-1902 building has corbeled cornices and a three-storey staircase tower, which the nomination calls its most distinctive feature.

A few original mill houses survive in deteriorated condition, and an expressway now separates the mill from what remains of its village.
