What we established, and from where
The original 1891 mill was a 508-by-77-foot brick building designed by the D. A. Tompkins Company.

By 1907 the Highland Park Manufacturing Company had become the nation's third-largest gingham producer.

Stuart W. Cramer's firm, which had designed Highland Park Mill No. 3, drew plans for the $7,000 brick addition built at Mill No. 1 in 1912.

The Highland Park Manufacturing Company dissolved in June 1969 and Mill No. 1 closed in 1975.

Hosiery manufacturer Highland Mills, Inc. bought the property on 1 July 1977 and used the plant until June 2016.

A small group of early twentieth-century mill worker houses survives south-east of the plant but has been heavily altered, as has Duncan Memorial Methodist Church.
