Start with the facilities your group needs. The six places below are a comparison of county records, not a ranking or a review of equipment. Open an individual guide to check its location. A recorded restroom or parking area is not a promise it will be available when you arrive.

The selected facility records were checked against the county park layer on October 15, 2026. The longer inventory below retains its original snapshot basis. Shade, fencing, equipment ages, surfaces and step-free access have not been inspected for this shortlist.

Before choosing, ask whether the particular play equipment suits your child's age, whether the play space is enclosed, and whether the route from your arrival point to play and restrooms meets your needs. A shade arbor somewhere in a park does not mean its playground is shaded.

What the county records, and what it does not

Mecklenburg County records playgrounds at 157 sites representing 151 park names. Three site records are not marked developed and are excluded from the 148 developed-park entries below. The broader park layer records ten sprayground parks, nine of which also have a playground flag. These are county park records; the guide explains what they do and do not establish.

The county's park data says that a park has a playground. It does not say what equipment is there, what ages it suits, whether it is fenced, shaded, or has a soft surface, or whether any of it is designed for disabled children. We have not visited these parks, so we do not guess. If a particular need matters to you, treat this page as the list of places to check, not as the answer.

For a water outing, check the operating page as well as the map. The GIS inventory does not contain a usable live operating schedule. The county aquatics page does; the current seasonal status is below.

Plan current access separately. The snapshot records amenities and parking figures, not today's opening hours. Check the official park or town information before traveling. The tables display a dash where the numeric parking field is zero. That is not proof that no parking exists: numeric capacity and the separate parking flag can disagree.

Spraygrounds

Seasonal status, checked October 4, 2026: the county says its outdoor pools and spraygrounds are closed for the 2026 season and asks readers to check back for 2027 information. Its standing sprayground schedule is 10 a.m.–8 p.m., Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. The closure notice controls the current visit; the general schedule is not a promise of 2027 dates or uninterrupted operation. Current county aquatics information

Two county lists differ. The GIS inventory below records ten sprayground parks. The county's current public aquatics page lists eight: Clarks Creek, Cordelia, Ezell, First Ward, Latta, Nevin, Veterans and West Charlotte. It includes Ezell and omits Pineville Lake, Romare Bearden and Smithville. That does not by itself prove the omitted facilities have closed or the GIS record is wrong. Use the operating page and the relevant park or town for a current trip; keep the inventory as a list to investigate.

The lists also use different address numbers for First Ward (GIS 309 E Seventh Street; aquatics page 301 E Seventh Street) and Nevin (GIS 6100 Statesville Road; aquatics page 6000). Follow the operator's directions to the specific facility rather than silently substituting one address for every entrance.

Spraygrounds recorded in the county GIS inventory

Ten parks have a sprayground recorded. Two of them — First Ward Park and Romare Bearden Park — are Uptown and have no parking recorded, which does not establish that nearby parking is unavailable.

Water features run by towns or private operators may follow different seasons and rules. This county-data guide does not establish that a decorative fountain is a play area. Confirm the operator and permitted use before making an unfamiliar feature the destination.

Swimming and aquatic centres

The county records six aquatic centres: Ray's Splash Planet (215 N Sycamore St, Charlotte), Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center (800 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Charlotte), Double Oaks Family Aquatic Center (2014 Statesville Ave, Charlotte), Marion Diehl Recreation Center & Pool (2219 Tyvola Rd, Charlotte), Eastway Regional Recreation Center (3150 Eastway Park Dr, Charlotte) and Northern Regional Recreation Center (18121 Old Statesville Rd, Cornelius).

Check the county's current aquatic facility information for indoor and outdoor categories and current sessions. Double Oaks is an outdoor facility; the other five named facilities are listed in the county's indoor category. A mapped aquatic center does not confirm that family open swimming is available at the time you plan to visit.

Outdoor swimming is flagged at Cordelia Park and, at the lake, Ramsey Creek Park in Cornelius.

Plan a swim rather than a splash

Indoor pools use timetables, admission rules and capacity limits. Choose a specific family/open-swim session on the facility pages; a swimming flag does not mean you can arrive for unrestricted swimming. Cordelia's outdoor pool is a different facility from its sprayground, and Double Oaks is also outdoors and seasonal.

Ramsey Creek Beach is the county's Lake Norman swimming-beach option. Read its current season notice and fees before planning a swim. The 2026 fee table distinguishes walk-in ages, county residency, weekday versus weekend/holiday car entry and concession categories; do not assume one per-person price covers every arrival method. Swimming and wading outside the designated beach area are prohibited.

When Ramsey Creek's lot reaches capacity, additional cars must wait until space is available. Do not park along Nantz Road or surrounding streets. The county lists accessible restrooms, outdoor showers and a sand wheelchair, but contact the operator if you need to confirm wheelchair availability or assistance. For the difference between swimming, boat access and a park visit, use Lake Norman public access.

Skate parks, BMX and gaga ball

• Skate parks — Grayson Park, Kilborne Park and Renaissance Park.
• BMX track — Fred Alexander Park and Hornets Nest Park.
• Gaga ball — Flat Branch Park, Grier Heights Park, Olde Providence Park and Robbins Park.
• High ropes — recorded only at the US National Whitewater Center in the current layer.
• Rock climbing — recorded only at the US National Whitewater Center.

Developed parks with a playground

Merged so each park appears once, with all of its recorded addresses. The three tables retain the September 14, 2026 inventory and contain 148 developed parks. Names, addresses and displayed parking figures were cross-checked against the live county layer on October 4, 2026. "Spaces" is a recorded numeric capacity, not a live vacancy count. A dash represents a zero numeric entry, not proof that the site cannot be reached by car.

School and recreation-center records in this directory do not establish unrestricted public access. Confirm permitted visiting times, scheduled sessions and any admission requirements with the operator.

Double Oaks Park, Independence Park and Wingate Park have playground flags but were not marked developed in the checked layer, so they are not recommended as open playgrounds by these tables. That data status alone does not establish their current physical condition; check the operator before visiting.

A note on where these are

Of the 157 playground site records, 114 have a Charlotte address; the rest are in Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Matthews, Mint Hill and Pineville. A Charlotte postal address is not the same as being inside the city limits, and this page does not claim it is.

53 playground site records have a parking flag of “No.” That flag and the numeric space count are different fields and sometimes disagree. Confirm the actual entrance and parking arrangements before arriving by car.

Questions people actually ask

Are spraygrounds open now? The county's notice checked October 4 says its outdoor pools and spraygrounds are closed for the 2026 season. Use the current aquatics page for the next season's arrangements.

Which playground suits a toddler or a wheelchair user? The inventory does not establish equipment ages, fencing, shade, surfacing or an accessible route. Use the Park Finder to shortlist recorded amenities, then check the operator's page and ask about the specific need before travelling. A restroom or playground flag does not establish step-free access.

Can children swim at every listed water feature? No. Spraygrounds, pools and a designated lake beach are different facilities. Confirm the session, supervision rules and admission for the place you choose. Follow posted rules and actively supervise children around water.

What will a water outing cost? Check the chosen facility's current admission rather than treating this inventory as a price list. Ramsey Creek publishes a fee table; pool and recreation-center sessions have their own terms. The county's aquatics page checked for this guide does not state a sprayground admission price, so this guide does not use its silence as proof of a fee or a free-entry guarantee.
