Choose your Whitewater Center visit around a trail outing, an activity pass or an event. The useful first decision is what you want to do: property entry, parking and booked activities have different arrangements. Check trail status and the activity schedule before setting out.
The county's park record lists 5000 Whitewater Center Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28214. Use the recorded location and the center's current arrival information when planning your journey. [source]
Entry, parking and activity passes
The center's FAQ says you do not need a ticket or pass to enter the property, and no pass or fee is required to use the trail system. Vehicle parking is charged separately, and paid activity passes are available. A visit without an activity pass can still involve a parking cost. [source]
| Your plan | What to check first |
|---|---|
| Walk, run or ride the trails | Trail status, official entry points and whether you need equipment |
| Raft, climb or try a ropes course | The chosen activity's requirements, pass coverage and availability |
| Attend River Jam | The event listing, parking arrangements and the weather |
| Bring a dog | Leash rules and access to the designated off-leash area |
Use the current FAQ for parking and pass options. Compare what is included before buying; do not assume every activity uses the same booking arrangement.
What is there
Whitewater describes the Charlotte center as 1,300 acres of protected woodland along the Catawba River, built around a manmade whitewater river. Its published activity list includes rafting, flatwater paddling, ziplines, ropes courses, climbing, mountain biking, trail running and hiking. [source] [source]
For a first visit, choose one main activity and then see what else fits around it. If everyone in your group wants something different, check each person's requirements before selecting passes. The activity list is a useful starting point, while the daily schedule tells you what is available on your date.
Trails: a separate way to use the center
The FAQ describes more than 40 miles of trails. The center says the system is accessed through its official entry points and can close when weather or other conditions affect the trails. [source] [source]
Check the status on Whitewater's site before traveling, particularly if the trails are the main reason for your trip. Pick a route that suits your group and leave time to get back to your starting point. A large trail network is a choice of routes, not a suggested distance for one outing.
Dogs and food
The FAQ welcomes pets on leash except within the designated off-leash area. It also says outside food and beverages are not permitted on the property, including the parking lots. Activity eligibility requirements differ, so use the specific activity's information before booking. [source]
Plan food around that policy rather than packing a picnic for the grounds. For a dog visit, check the center's current off-leash arrangements as well as the wider Charlotte dog-parks guide.
Concerts and winter visits
The center advertises free outdoor River Jam concerts; vehicle parking remains a separate cost. Use the River Jam page for the current season's lineup and dates. [source]
Its winter program includes ice skating and other seasonal activities. Check Winter at Whitewater for the current program and ticket arrangements before planning a visit around it. [source]
Plan the rest of your outdoor day
The county park record supplies the recorded location and amenities. For other plans, compare Charlotte outdoors, free things to do and things to do with kids.
Sources and limits
The center's overview, FAQ, River Jam and winter program were checked on October 3, 2026. This is a guide to published visitor information, not a field review. Current hours, prices, activity eligibility and closures belong on the center's own site. The address uses the county park snapshot archived on September 14, 2026.
